SUMMARY:August Lunch & Learn – Jake Tiger: “The Forcible Removal of the Seminoles to Indian Territory.”
DESCRIPTION:The Bartlesville Area History Museum is excited to announce our August “Lunch and Learn” event will feature guest speaker Jake Tiger\, a prominent historian and the Band Chief of the Thomas Palmer Band (formerly the Paskofv band) within the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. \nTiger plays a vital role in preserving and sharing tribal heritage through educational exhibits\, cultural presentations\, and his work with the tribe’s Historic Preservation Department\, documenting and sharing the history of the Seminole people. Some of his notable historical and educational efforts include: educational presentations—such as his program at the Fort Gibson Historic Site—detailing the forcible removal of the Seminoles to Indian Territory. As a representative of the Seminole Nation Office of Historic Preservation\, he has participated in exhibits such as “Life at Mekusukey – Story of a Sovereign Seminole School” at the Seminole Nation Museum. Tiger has been featured guest on the Oklahoma Historical Society’s podcast\, A Very OK Podcast\, discussing the origins of the Seminole Nation\, the Seminole Wars\, and the impact of the Greater Seminole Oilfield. \nJoin us as Tiger gives his educational presentation detailing the forcible removal of the Seminoles to Indian Territory. This event will be held\, August 20th\, from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.\, Tables and chairs will be set up for people who bring a lunch\, and little ones may enjoy our history coloring station and games! After the presentation attendees are encouraged to take a tour of our permanent and temporary galleries!
